The Institut Pasteur of New Caledonia (IPNC) is pleased to announce the launch of the NIHFI study (National Institutes of Health – Undetermined Fevers), an international multicenter project coordinated by the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
Led by the Medical Epidemiology Group (GEM) and the Gaston-Bourret Territorial Hospital Center (CHT), in collaboration with the Leptospirosis Research Unit (UREL) and the Institut Pasteur in Paris (IPP), this study aims to improve the early diagnosis and severity prediction of human leptospirosis. This disease is endemic to New Caledonia and can lead to severe clinical forms. To achieve this, the research focuses on identifying clinical and biological criteria to distinguish leptospirosis from other acute febrile illnesses.
A total of 400 participants presenting symptoms suggestive of leptospirosis will be recruited over a two-year period.
